Hypotensive Action of Reserpine

چکیده
The effects of large doses of reserpine have been compared in hypertensive and norrmotensive patients. The falls of blood pressure are larger in the hvpertensives than in the normotensives. In normotensive animals small falls of blood pressure occur. Evidence is presented which suggests that the fall of blood pressure in animals is in part mediated through the sympathetic nervous system. There seems also to be a direct vascular action in animals. In man, evidence is presented which suggests that part at least of the hypotensive action is mediated through the sympathetic

Reserpine methonitrate, a novel quaternary analogue of reserpine augments urinary excretion of VMA and 5-HIAA without affecting HVA in rats
BACKGROUND Reserpine, an alkaloid from Rauwolfia serpentina was widely used for its antihypertensive action in the past. In later years, its use has been reduced because of precipitation of depression and extra pyramidal symptoms due to its central action. In the present investigation, reserpine methonitrate (RMN), a novel quaternary analogue of reserpine was synthesised and evaluated biochemic...
متن کاملDo ganglion-blocking agents and reserpine affect central vasomotor activity?
In a majority of experiments on both dogs and eats, hypotensive doses of tetraethylammoniuin chloride or mecamylamine caused no change or moderate increase in efferent electric activity in the largely preganglionic thoracic portion of the splanchnic nerve, and caused complete and prolonged elimination of efferent activity in the postganglionic inferior cardiac and renal nerves. Both drugs faile...
متن کاملEffect of reserpine-free extract of Rauwolfia serpentina on stress-induced activation of adrenal cortex.
Previous observations on rats have shown that reserpine free extract of R. Serpentina prevents the stress induced activation of adrenal cortex. The therapeutic success of R. Serpentina in clinical hypertension has stimulated extensive research recently. It has been observed that the drug has, in addition to the well marked hypotensive action, a tranquillising influence on the patient. Results o...
متن کاملThe effects of reserpine on hypertensive patients over a period of two years.
To justify the use of a drug in the routine treatment of hypertension it should be capable of reducing the diastolic and systolic blood pressures by 20 mm. Hg or more throughout the day and tolerance to its action should not develop on prolonged administration; the therapeutic dose should be considerably less than the toxic dose and since indefinite administration is required, the sideeffects s...
متن کاملEnhancement of blood pressure response to dopamine by angiotensin II.
The interaction of dopamine and angiotensin II (AII) on blood pressure and heart rate was studied in rats. The influence of reserpine pretreatment and vagotomy was also studied. Inbred rats anesthetized with urethane received intravenous (i.v.) doses of 50, 100, 200, or 400 micron g (per 100 g body weight) of dopamine HCI, before and after a single i.v. dose of 0.025 micron g of AII. The same d...
